EuroPython 2025

Talk Proposal Deadline: 27th January, 2025 23:59h UTC
Contact: programme@europython.eu

The Conference Format

The conference consists of a mixture of tutorials (180 minutes), talks (30 or 45 minutes), and posters. Tutorials will run on the 14th and 15th of July, while talks and posters will run from the 16th to the 18th of July. Please note that 5 minutes of your talk slot are intended for questions.

All sessions will be designated at the following levels:

  • Beginner: The audience requires little or no previous knowledge to engage with the subject matter.
  • Intermediate: Some knowledge is assumed, although aspects of the talk may introduce new (more advanced) topics.
  • Advanced: The audience comprises subject matter experts ... go ahead and really geek out.

In previous years, we’ve had many beginner- and intermediate-level talks. We’d love to encourage more advanced-level contributions as well. Come geek out with us at the conference!

Topics

We welcome presentations on any topic that will be of specific or general interest to members of the Python community. We are a broad and deep community, so talks that may at first seem niche or unexpected actually make EuroPython the cosmopolitan place that it is. It's your conference!

Browse through our past conferences and talk videos for more ideas and to identify where there may be gaps that ought to be filled.

Tracks

Please see our website for more details on the tracks we'll be running this year.

Proposal Title and Abstract

In our experience, attendees pay close attention to proposal abstracts when deciding which talks to attend during the conference. The submitted abstract will be published as-is in the conference programme (you can edit the submission later).

We encourage you to include details about the theory and/or practice that you will discuss. Specifically, if the system you've built uses open-source tools, please mention the libraries in the proposal and clarify whether you will be presenting a case study of their use or discussing details of their design.

In general, conference attendees, as well as the review committee, should be able to answer these questions based on your submission:

  • What problem is your talk addressing?
  • Why is the problem relevant to the audience?
  • What are your solutions to the problem, or are you simply pointing out an issue we should be aware of (this is also extremely useful)?
  • What are the main takeaways from your talk? For tutorial submissions, this is very important: please specify what people will have learned at the end of the tutorial session.

Selection Process

To ensure our programme reflects our diverse community, submissions go through three rounds of review and refinement before the final programme is announced:

  • NEW! Feedback on proposal (first 100 proposals submitted only): The first 100 proposals will be quickly screened by the programme team, and any feedback we have for possible improvements will be given. This will be done within the CfP submission window to allow you to make changes to your proposal. Please note that this is a one-off review and is distinct from the mentoring program. (1)
  • Community voting: Open to all 2015–2025 EuroPython conference ticket holders and anyone who proposes a talk for the 2025 conference. This helps us judge the uniqueness, specificity, popularity, and appeal of each proposal.
  • Panel feedback: A diverse group of experienced reviewers refines and provides constructive feedback on submissions within their realm of expertise. This helps us judge the balance, quality, and diversity of our programme.
  • Programme team: These volunteers curate the final programme based on the results of community voting and panel feedback. They also ensure we meet editorial criteria such as diversity, depth, and breadth of topics and speakers.

Speaker Support

This year, all sessions must be given in person. Accepted speakers are eligible for a free Conference Ticket; accepted workshop and tutorial organisers are eligible for a free Combined Ticket. Ticket details will be available soon. Travel and accommodation expenses will not be reimbursed, but the Financial Aid programme will open for applications soon. We encourage speakers, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, to apply.

Childcare: We are excited to offer free childcare at the venue. During conference hours, there will be a dedicated area with childcare professionals who will look after your children. Make sure to register your free speaker ticket for yourself and specify how many children will require childcare at checkout.

The CfP will close on 27th January, 2025.

(1): The screening process will try to address objective improvements to your proposal (like missing information).
You can accept or ignore the screening feedback at your discretion, and this will have no direct impact as to whether your proposal is accepted or rejected.
Given the nature of the screening process and the anonymity of the proposals, the EuroPython team cannot discuss individual screening feedback. Please do not email us about your screening feedback.

You can enter proposals until 2025-01-27 23:59 (UTC), 1 week, 2 days from now.
